Rivier University Nursing Simulation Lab
The University’s undergraduate nursing program expanded the number of simulation rooms in its simulation lab. These rooms are where student nurses practice treating patients. The nursing students are monitored by instructors and other students from a central monitoring station, and also from adjacent classrooms. The original design allowed for remote monitoring/recording (and in some cases two way communication) of six simulation rooms, using five computers located in the central monitoring station.
For this project, two new simulation rooms needed to be added, two new desks for observers needed to be added to the central monitoring room, and two additional monitoring rooms were needed. These monitoring rooms also served as classrooms.
NEDI was asked to complete the project. The simulation rooms required new wiring, ceiling microphones and ceiling mounted Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras. To support the additional rooms, the central monitoring station required an upgrade to the video switching and audio mixing systems. Cable pulls to the new desks within the central monitoring station were done so more observers could use that room. Cable pulls and new connections were installed into the adjacent classrooms allowing those classrooms to view the simulation rooms.
